While Age of Empires 3 attempted to innovate and bring new mechanics to the table Age of Mythology had already succeeded in doing so. Although the graphical prowess of Age of Empires 3 certainly cannot be beaten, especially by a title that pre-dates it, I find that in many ways Age of Mythology is much better. It utilises every tool it has to create an engaging and interesting experience with it's entertaining campaign and it's wildly varying civilisations. Although Age of Mythology is likely to age the worst out of all the titles due to it's limited animations and graphical fidelity, I would still say it is one of the best titles in the franchise.
